Roy E Disney, a long-time executive of the Walt Disney Company - which his uncle founded - has died aged 79. He had been ill with stomach cancer for the past year.

I had the honour and privilege of meeting Roy on several occasions, my memories are of a gentle and unassuming gentleman.

Roy, who played a powerful role at the company for more than 50 years, led a successful shareholder revolt against chief executive Michael Eisner.
