Disney Obsessions I don't get

intercot.com - Fri, 2018-04-13 17:06
Another thread got me thinking about some of the obsessions of Disney fans that I just don't get. There are just so many things at Disney that people say "My vacation is ruined because I didn't get ........" So here are some obsessions that have me scratching my head.

Dole Whips - Ok, I too love these, but I am not about to wait in a 30 minute line to get one. Especially now that they are offered in more than just the Magic Kingdom. Actually, I was recently at Six Flags over Texas and saw Dole Whips there.

Turkey Legs - ?? Ok this one I don't even think taste that good, but even if I did I would not make a big deal out of something that I see sold at fairs (and Six Flags).

Churros - I like churros but where I live in Texas, they are something that you can buy at most gas stations.

Starbucks - Why is there a line for overpriced coffee in Disney??? Especially when you can get the same overpriced coffee in every city in america (though you have to wait in line at those locations too). Actually why are so many people waiting in line for overpriced coffee?

Any other Disney obsessions (food or otherwise) that any of you don't get?

Disneyland Resort Celebrates the First-Ever Pixar Fest for a Limited-Time, Now through Sept. 3, 2018

disneylandnews.com/ - Fri, 2018-04-13 12:00
Friday, April 13, Marks the Beginning of the Biggest Theme Park Celebration of Stories and Characters from Pixar Animation Studios Pixar Fest Features a New Nighttime Spectacular, the Return of ‘Paint the Night’ and ‘Pixar Play Parade’ with New Elements, Plus Pixar-Themed Food and Beverage and More

ANAHEIM, Calif. (April 13, 2018) – Pixar Fest, the biggest Pixar celebration ever to come to Disney Parks, brings guests together to celebrate friendship and beyond for a limited time, today through Sept. 3, 2018.

This first-ever Pixar Fest presents some of the beloved characters and stories from Pixar Animation Studios in new and exciting ways at Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park and throughout the resort. Films such as Pixar’s “Toy Story,” “Coco,” “Monsters, Inc.” and “Up” come to life for guests in a new nighttime spectacular, the return of two favorite parades with fresh Pixar surprises, new décor, musical entertainment, creatively themed food and beverage and event merchandise.

The new multimedia fireworks show, Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular,” celebrates the heart of Pixar as it lights up the sky over Disneyland Park, connecting guests with characters they’ve come to know and love. Along with dazzling pyrotechnics, projections on iconic park locations and memorable music, the heartwarming show celebrates the theme of friendship, an ever-present concept in Pixar animation. Guests discover favorite moments from all 19 Pixar films, including Buzz Lightyear and Carl Fredricksen’s House from the film “Up” flying over Sleeping Beauty Castle.

For the first time, Pixar Play Parademakes its way through Disneyland Park, being led by someone new. The parade begins just as all Pixar films have, with an appearance by the iconic and adorable Pixar Lamp and yellow Ball from the original Pixar short, “Luxo Jr.” Also new to the parade are characters from the beloved film, “Up.” Wilderness Explorer Russell appears astride the colorful flightless bird, Kevin, as Carl Fredricksen and Dug follow behind with Carl’s tethered house floating above. “Inside Out” also joins “Pixar Play Parade,” with Joy and Sadness perched atop colorful memory orbs and Bing Bong himself cheering them on.

Paint the Night parade also returns, and this time guests enjoy the parade’s more than 1 million, brilliant LED lights and catchy tunes at Disney California Adventure. “Paint the Night” features pals from “Toy Story,” “Monsters, Inc.” and “Cars.” Another Pixar story joins “Paint the Night” in June, with a new, high-energy float inspired by “The Incredibles” and “Incredibles 2.” Mr. Incredible, Mrs. Incredible and Frozone will showcase their superhero awesomeness as they take on their newest threat, the Underminer. Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack also showcase their unique powers in surprising new ways, as shown through dynamic and innovative visual technology. Like other elements in this spectacular parade, this new float comes to life through dazzling LED lights, new music elements and high-tech, pop-art effects inspired by the mid-century-modern style of the films.

A collection of Pixar Shorts is featured at the Sunset Showcase Theater at Disney California Adventure during most of Pixar Fest, including favorites such as “For the Birds” and “LAVA.” The short films rotate during the celebration.

In the Paradise Gardens area of Disney California Adventure, guests will enjoy the comedic, musical troupe TripleDent Gum presents The Pixarmonic Orchestra. The zany, seven-piece band performs a fun-filled repertoire of songs from Pixar films with unconventional instruments such as cowbells, kazoos, duck calls, sirens and slide whistles. Guests also will encounter Pixar characters in this Pixar Pals area of the park.

Special renditions of the hit song “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” from the Pixar film “Toy Story,” are performed by musical groups including the Disneyland Band, Straw Hatters, Dapper Dans, Main Street Piano Player, Royal Street Bachelors, Jambalaya Jazz Band and Mariachi Divas. The Straw Hatters also perform a rendition of “Married Life” from “Up,” along with the Royal Street Bachelors who add “If I Didn’t Have You” from “Monsters, Inc.”

Beginning June 8, the Pixar Pals Dance Party at the Tomorrowland Terrace in Disneyland will get guests of all ages mixing, mingling and dancing with some of their favorite Pixar pals. The dance party is an ideal time to get up close with Pixar characters such as Russell, Dug, Woody, Jessie, the Green Army Men and more.

Also during Pixar Fest, guests in Tomorrowland will find that the popular Redd Rockett’s Pizza Port has transformed into Alien Pizza Planet, inspired by the loveable, green Space Aliens from the family restaurant frequented by Andy (and his toys) in “Toy Story.” The Aliens have invaded this popular dining spot to deliver fresh, hot pizzas and other items that are out of this world, including the new specialty pepperoni pizza and cheeseburger pizza.

For those who wish to get into character and celebrate friendship, limited-time Pixar Fest merchandise is available for guests, including friendship charm bracelets, companion apparel designed to be worn in pairs, “Finding Nemo” and “Finding Dory” souvenir light-up sippers and so much more.

All these exciting additions complement the many existing attractions and entertainment in the parks that feature Pixar characters, such as Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters and Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage at Disneyland, and Cars Land and Turtle Talk with Crush at Disney California Adventure.

Paint The Night Parade RETURNS

I just watched a "sneak peak" live stream of the Paint The Night parade which has now returned, but now to California Adventure. I believe tonight, April the 13th (FRIDAY THE 13th...AHHH!!), is the real premiere date. I'm so happy - it nearly brings a tear to my eye! As my (at the time) five year old son said, after watching it for the first time, "that is the best parade of my whole life"! The music is amazing, the lit-up floats and dancers are unparalleled. Quote Sheet: Pixar Fest at the Disneyland Resort

disneylandnews.com/ - Thu, 2018-04-12 20:39

The first-ever Pixar Fest brings the playful spirit of Pixar films to life at the Disneyland Resort from April 13 through Sept. 3, 2018, for the biggest Pixar celebration ever to come to Disney Parks. The following Disney and Pixar cast members have been involved with the development and launch of Pixar Fest.

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts

Bob Chapek, Chairman, Disney Parks, Experiences & Consumer Products:

  • “Since 1955, we’ve been bringing Disney magic to families here in Anaheim and around the world. And behind it all—right from the very beginning—has been the world’s best storytelling, including the amazing stories created by Pixar. The team at Pixar has brought us to a world in which cars are just as human we are; they’ve shown us the softer side of the monsters under our bed; and they’ve taken us to infinity and beyond. Now as we launch Pixar Fest, we’re taking what Disney parks does best—creating magical experiences—and combining it with some of the greatest stories of all time to give guests something totally new.”

Disneyland Resort

Josh DAmaro, President, Disneyland Resort:

  • “Whether you’re battling the evil Emperor Zurg with Buzz Lightyear or cruising down Route 66 in Cars Land, Pixar stories play an enormous part of any visit to the Disneyland Resort. With a new fireworks show, the arrival of ‘Pixar Play Parade’ in Disneyland Park and the return of ‘Paint the Night,’ Pixar Fest and its spirit of friendship will bring favorite Pixar stories to life for our guests in new and exciting ways.”

 Pixar Fest Entertainment

“Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular”

John Addis, Show Director, Disney Parks Live Entertainment:

  • “I cannot wait for everyone to see ‘Together Forever—A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular.’ It’s fun, exciting and joyous; and the stories will touch guests’ hearts and lift their spirits.”
  • “There are some really beautiful fireworks in this show with colors and textures unlike anything you’ve ever seen before at the Disneyland Resort. The fireworks enhance the stories guests will see on the projections and hear through the music, which make this multimedia experience very lively and fun.”

Susana Tubert, Creative Director, “Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular”:

  • “ ‘Together Forever– A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular’ is ode to the heart of Pixar from Disneyland. This fireworks spectacular is a celebration of the journey of friendship featured in so many of Pixar’s beloved films; when characters first meet, then set out on adventures, face and overcome adversities and forge everlasting bonds together, forever.”
  • “In ‘Together Forever,’ it was important to capture what makes Pixar films unique: stories that are driven by characters who have a strong, emotional connection. Through this multimedia and fireworks spectacular, guests are going to experience friendship on many levels – the friendships between Pixar pals, as well as their own emotional bonds with the characters of these beloved Pixar films.”

Matt Walker, Head of Music, Walt Disney Imagineering:

  • “What was particularly fun in constructing and designing this show, was the role of music. We could take these amazing Pixar scores and songs and weave them in to support the story of friendship. This show is all about friends meeting, the adventures they go on, the challenges they face, and friendships that last forever.”

“Paint the Night” Parade

Randy Wojcik, Creative Director, “Paint the Night” Parade:

  • “ ‘Paint the Night’ parade showcases a beautiful story about Sorcerer Mickey who has found a way to harness Tinker Bell’s magical pixie dust.”
  • “One of the most visually impressive elements in ‘Paint the Night’ parade is Mack Truck from Pixar’s ‘Cars.’  Mack’s great personality from the films really comes to life, and to light, on the parade route in a very magical way. Along with Buzz and Woody, and Mike and Sulley, we’re excited for guests to be dazzled by even more Pixar pals when a new float inspired by ‘The Incredibles’ and ‘Incredibles 2’ joins this nighttime parade for Pixar Fest this June!”

“Pixar Play Parade”

Robin Trowbridge, Show Director, “Pixar Play Parade”:

  • “At Disneyland Park, ‘Pixar Play Parade’ brings Pixar characters and friends together for one big moment and shining celebration of play.”
  • “In ‘Pixar Play Parade,’ we have our favorite Pixar pals coming back, plus the addition of new friends. Joining the parade are the iconic Pixar Lamp and Ball, as well as new story elements featuring beloved characters from ‘Up’ and ‘Inside Out.’ They really take the Pixar fun to a new level!”

Paul Bryant, Choreographer, “Pixar Play Parade”:

  • “There are so many different styles of dance incorporated in ‘Pixar Play Parade,’ from jazz to hip hop, which makes this parade lively and fun. We want guests watching ‘Pixar Play Parade’ to get up on their feet, have a good time and dance like nobody’s watching!”

TripleDent Gum presents The Pixarmonic Orchestra

Chris Utley, Show Director, The Pixarmonic Orchestra:

  • “The inspiration for The Pixarmonic Orchestra came from a lifelong appreciation and love of the music of Spike Jones and His City Slickers. The band presents an array of musical styles in a fun and upbeat fashion that fits the Pixar tunes perfectly. The arrangements, dialogue and energy of this unique group will appeal to the whole family.”
  •  “We had so much fun designing the costumes for The Pixarmonic Orchestra. We took the idea of big plaid and blended it with the mid-century modern look from Pixar films to come up with a colorful costume that suits the music style perfectly. The costumes even have some fun Pixar ‘Easter Eggs!’ ”

Pixar Fest Food & Beverage

Chef John State, Culinary Director, Disneyland Resort:

  • “The food and beverage at Pixar Fest celebrates what we do best here – combining great flavors with storytelling. We think guests are going to love eating it as much they love showing it off on social media.”
  • “Guests will see the talent of our Chefs in all the Pixar Fest food and beverage. Not only are the offerings delicious, they tell the story of Pixar Fest in authentic ways. At Carnation Café, guests can get a pork chop dinner that’s served in a dish that looks just like the TV dinners Carl eats in the “Up” film. The Pixar Fest Celebration Cake has three layers –the colors of the Pixar lamp and ball. And the green, Space Alien macarons – well, they’re out of this world!”
  • “There’s even more to look forward to with Pixar Fest food and beverage. In June, we’re introducing a new menu at Lamplight Lounge at Pixar Pier, and a new Pixar-themed Afternoon Tea will be served at Steakhouse 55 beginning April 13.”

Disney Parks Live Entertainment

Shelby JiggettsTivony, Vice President, Creative and Advanced Development, Disney Parks Live Entertainment:

  • “Pixar creates these worlds that you want to know better, then Walt Disney Imagineering creates the chance for you to walk through those worlds, and Disney Parks Live Entertainment creates those character experiences where you get to spend time with them up close, in so many fun ways.”
  • “We work closely with our partners to figure out how to bring these characters to life so that the guests can meet them, hug them, and interact with them.”

Pixar Animation Studios

Roger Gould, Creative Director, Theme Parks, Pixar Animation Studios:

  •  “The Pixar stories don’t end just because the film does – we imagine the characters’ lives continue. And that’s what we’ve been able to deliver on in the Disney Parks – keeping our stories alive and moving forward in many different ways. Walking into our worlds gives our guests’ the chance to reignite their emotional connection with Pixar stories and characters – to embrace the characters they love.”
  • “In our films, we take audiences under the sea, around the world, into outer space, inside the human mind or even someplace as improbable as the Land of the Dead.  It’s amazing for all of us to be able to physically visit the different worlds we’ve only dreamed up on a screen. There’s something transformative about bringing guests into these special places – that’s what Disney Parks is all about.”

Liz Gazzano, Executive Producer, Theme Parks, Pixar Animation Studios:

  • “Everybody on our team loves working with Walt Disney Imagineering and Disney Parks Live Entertainment. I think it brings out the best in all of us. When we all come together on a project, after a while we’re finishing each other’s sentences. It has been an amazing partnership.”

Offsite stay - can lead to big savings.

intercot.com - Thu, 2018-04-12 16:31
I know a lot of people on intercot will not consider staying offsite (I used to be one of those people), but I want everyone to know there are deals to be had out there. Last night I booked a 3 bedroom/ 3 bath townhouse for the week of Thanksgiving. Total cost for the week is $1071.

Just for fun I did a quick search on Disney's website, the best I could do for a party our size, for the same week was $2,370 in a All Star Music family suite.

Incase you are interested I found this deal on Vacation Rentals by Owner.

‘Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular’

disneylandnews.com/ - Thu, 2018-04-12 02:50
New, Multimedia Fireworks Show Creates ‘An Ode to the Heart of Pixar,’ and an Emotional Journey for Guests at Pixar Fest

ANAHEIM, Calif. – “Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular” debuts during the first-ever Pixar Fest celebration, April 13-Sept. 3, 2018 at the Disneyland Resort. “Together Forever” celebrates friendship and connects guests to beloved Pixar characters and stories as it lights up the sky over Disneyland Park. Dazzling pyrotechnics, immersive projections, colorful lasers and memorable music are part of the storytelling in this unique multimedia show.

A collaborative effort, “Together Forever” brought together the talents of Disney Parks Live Entertainment and Pixar Animation Studios. Susana Tubert, creative director of the nighttime spectacular, explains the genesis, the storyline and the heart of this new show that opens on the first night of Pixar Fest.

What was the creative inspiration for “Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular”?

“ ‘Together Forever’ is an ode to the heart of Pixar from Disneyland. It was important to capture what makes Pixar films unique, and to show how they are driven by an emotional component that connects viewers to the characters. We have captured those relationships to celebrate ‘friendship and beyond,’ the theme of Pixar Fest, and we’re taking guests on an emotional journey with the Pixar characters as they forge everlasting friendships.”

How is “Together Forever” different from other nighttime spectaculars at Disneyland? How does it tell a story?

“Pixar is known for its storytelling talents, and the story of this show depicts the ways in which friendships unfold in so many Pixar films. Guests will experience the stages of friendship that different Pixar characters go through; it’s part of what guests know and love about them. To communicate this in a multimedia fireworks spectacular, guests will see some of their favorite Pixar characters meeting for the first time, setting out on adventures, overcoming adversities, and, in the end, forging everlasting bonds – together. The beautiful fireworks in the sky support the emotional arc of the show.”

How do the projections, fireworks and special effects used in “Together Forever” help to immerse guests in story of this fireworks spectacular?

“What we’ve done with ‘Together Forever’ is bring Pixar stories into Disneyland park and immerse guests in the stories in an all-new way. In certain instances, the projections seem to leap off Sleeping Beauty Castle and onto Main Street, U.S.A. For example, in the ‘Cars’ sequence, Lightning McQueen races around the guests on Main Street, U.S.A., while his friends cheer from Sleeping Beauty Castle. WALL•E and EVE dance through a star field and, as they fly off the castle, they transform into translucent fireworks.

“And when Miguel from ‘Coco’ travels from the Land of the Living to the Land of the Dead, there’s an incredible moment when he looks up to the sky and the bridge of marigolds appears as gold fireworks above him. All of the special effects used in ‘Together Forever’ truly make this show come to life and connect guests to these heartwarming stories in spectacular ways.”

How does the multimedia design heighten the excitement for guests?

“Much like a composer would write a symphony for an orchestra, our team was inspired to create a show that brings together all the different elements – fireworks, projections, music, surround sound, lasers, lighting and special effects. The end result is truly remarkable!”

What do you want guests to look for when they experience “Together Forever”?

“ ‘Together Forever’ not only pulls on the heartstrings, it also incorporates the humor that is iconic to Pixar films. We’re excited to bring a funny fireworks show to Disneyland that falls in line with the heart of Pixar stories. Plus, laughter is an important component of friendships.

“Additionally, guests will want to experience ‘Together Forever’ multiple times, to see it from the different viewing locations. Whether they’re watching from Sleeping Beauty Castle, ‘it’s a small world,’ Rivers of America or Main Street, U.S.A., they will enjoy different perspectives and ways to experience this multimedia spectacular. And no matter where guests choose to watch, they will get a great show!”

How do you expect guests to react to the story and emotions of this nighttime spectacular?

“Since guests have such a strong emotional connection to the characters and whimsical stories of Pixar films, we expect them to deepen their own bonds with these beloved Pixar characters. I know that by the time guests hear ‘You’ve Got a Friend in Me’ in the finale, they’re going to feel as if the characters are giving them a big Disneyland hug goodnight. I can’t wait for everyone to enjoy ‘Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular!’”

Dining and Special Treats Offer One More Way to Celebrate the First-Ever Pixar Fest, April 13 through Sept. 3, 2018

ANAHEIM, Calif. (April, 11, 2018) – The first-ever Pixar Fest offers fun and delicious eats and treats with a Pixar theme, as the celebration of friendship and beyond comes to the Disneyland Resort for a limited time, April 13-Sept. 3, 2018. During Pixar Fest, guests will discover creatively themed food and beverage offerings around every corner, inspired by the Pixar stories and characters that guests have come to know and love.

The Pixar Fest Celebration Cake is expected to be a guest favorite. Drawing inspiration from the famous yellow Pixar Ball, this eye-catching treat features layers of yellow vanilla cake, blue raspberry cake and red velvet cake with raspberry purée and vanilla frosting, topped with a chocolate Pixar Ball. The Pixar Fest Celebration Cake is available for guests at Plaza Inn at Disneyland Park and Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta at Disney California Adventure Park.

Also for Pixar Fest, the popular Redd Rockett’s Pizza Port transforms into Alien Pizza Planet, inspired by the loveable green Space Aliens from the family restaurant frequented by Andy (and his toys) in “Toy Story.” The Space Aliens are invading this popular dining spot to deliver fresh, hot pizzas and other items that are out of this world, including the new specialty pepperoni pizza and cheeseburger pizza.

All around the resort, guests will find special menu items inspired by the beloved characters and stories in Pixar films, ideal for sharing with a friend. Some of the creative Pixar Fest food and beverage items are listed below, and more details can be found at Disneyland.com.
