Need Help Planning Universal Vacation!!!

Thu, 2018-04-19 15:57
My oldest daughter (8 years old) has read the first four Harry Potter books. She loves them and has been begging for our next vacation to be at Universal Studios. I have been pricing it out, and honestly am quite shocked by how expensive it is. For some reason it seems like I get a better value at Disney.

I need some help with planning and have a few questions:
1. Does Universal ever have any good discounts that I should wait for?
2. If we go during a slow season (like the beginning of December or January), how necessary is the Unlimited Express Pass? Essentially, do I need to pay to stay at the hotel that supplies that, or will lines be low enough that it isn't needed.
3. I stayed at the Sapphire Falls Hotel for work earlier this year. I thought the boat system to the City Walk and park entrances was fantastic. But only the 3 most expensive hotels are on that boat canal. If you stay at Cabana Beach or the new Aventura hotel, what is transportation to the parks like?
4. Are there any "must-do" restaurants. I think my kids would be pretty intrigued by the Chocolate Factory.
5. Does Universal have any airport transportation? Like how Disney has the Magical Express?

Thanks!

Resort outside Disney

Thu, 2018-04-19 15:50
I am bringin a group of students to Orlando next spring. I have always stayed off site and know of at least one great hotel. However, I recently got an incredible deal from another local hotel and I was wondering if anyone has ever stayed there. I hear that it is used frequently by parents of the college program, but that is really all I know. It is the Clarion Lake Buena Vista. Any help would be appreciated.

Hollywood Studios FastPass Tier

Wed, 2018-04-18 17:05
So I'm going to assume that Hollywood Studios will make their new Slinky Dog and Alien Spin rides as FP...possibly splitting the two into different tiers. What do you think the groupings will be? Example:

Choose one of the following:
- Tower
- Rockin'
- Toy Story Mania
- Slinky Dog

Choose 2 of the following:
- everything else...

?????? For example they only let you choose ONE of the Pandora rides for a FP ...what's your theory thoughts on this???! Thanks! LLH:mickey:

Anyone have Asthma or SVT? Concerned about the July heat

Wed, 2018-04-18 13:24
I was just diagnosed with Asthma and Supraventricular Tachycardia 2 months ago. We always go to Disney in July. If you have Asthma, how do you handle the heat? Do you get a DAS? What about SVT? The rides have never made me anxious so I don't think the SVT will bother me on the rides. We always speed walk to every ride and go hard most of the day. I don't think I will be able to do that anymore. Any advice is appreciated.

Why so negative?

Wed, 2018-04-18 13:20
I usually enjoy reading the posts on INTERCOT, but lately I have noticed so much negativity in the responses. I always thought this was a happy place, where we could share ideas, new information, tips, and experiences. It seems that with every post, someone has to make a comment on Disney going down hill, or the price, or the lack of "magic".

I live about 30 minutes away from the "Sweetest" place on earth (Hershey) and believe me, Disney is a bargain compared to some of the other "theme parks" out there. Yes it is expensive, yes the price goes up, yes they have issues from time to time, but they are a corporation, and that's life. Most importantly...YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO! No one is twisting your arm. Don't take the "fireworks and pastry cruise for $99" but also don't complain that they lost the magic because it is right there, and if you CAN afford the cruise, then I bet it's magical!

No matter what happens, people will go. That's what makes anything a success. I try to go at least once a year, and if I could, I would go twice. And I still find magic in every visit, and I still think it is worth every penny. I find something new, or something I have never seen before EVERY TIME! I can't say that about the sweetest place. I'm traveling to an amusement park near Cleveland this summer and the price for 2 nights and tickets is almost the same for a week at a moderate resort. And don't get me started on the price of food!

It's not just the rides, it's the experience. I always tell people "go to an amusement park and you wait in a long line, in the hot sun. Go to Disney and you become part of the ride." That's what you are paying for: The whole experience!

I know Disney has problems, and yes I even see it from time to time, but I can honestly say that at the end of a Disney Vacation...I got my money's worth! I NEVER say that after a week at the beach. EVER!

I know everyone has an opinion, and every one has a right to express it, but really, why come on a forum for the happiest place on earth only be negative? Maybe Disney isn't for you anymore. Maybe YOU have lost the magic.

Sorry, just my opinion.

Crispy Mac & Cheese Bites – These crispy cheesy bites are surprisingly light. Served with tomato nage and Pecorino, they are Ron’s imaginative take on a grilled cheese with tomato soup.

Porchetta Spiced Pork Cheeks – Served with a creamy three-cheese polenta, these small bites of meaty goodness are cooked long and slow to perfection. The orange gremolata takes it over the top.

Grilled Whole Greek Sea Bass – One of the “family-style plates” that serves two or more, this light and tender whole fish is served with cannelloni bean ragoût and seasonal vegetables.

Olive Oil Cake – This moist cake with a rich olive oil flavor is served with candied olives and lemon mascarpone.
