Tue, 2017-09-05 18:59
Holiday Merriment Also Features ‘A Christmas Fantasy’ Parade, Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle, ‘it’s a small world’ Holiday, and  ‘Believe … in Holiday Magic’ Fireworks Spectacular

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Sept. 5, 2017) – The Happiest Place on Earth gets merrier once again when Holidays at the Disneyland Resort returns Nov. 10, 2017, through Jan. 7, 2018. This festive season includes the return of favorite holiday experiences, including Festival of Holidays, “World of Color – Season of Light,” and the “Believe … in Holiday Magic” fireworks spectacular.

Guests plan their seasonal visits year after year to experience beloved Holiday traditions, from snowfall on Main Street U.S.A., to glistening décor, Disney-themed treats, holiday entertainment and the one-of-a-kind transformations that create “it’s a small world” Holiday and Haunted Mansion Holiday.

At Disney California Adventure Park

  • The nighttime spectacular, “World of Color – Season of Light” celebrates the warm and heartfelt spirit of the holidays as it illuminates Paradise Bay with a sparkling winter fantasy combining classic holiday songs with memorable moments from treasured Disney animated films.
  • Festival of Holidays” brings the spirit of the season to life through delicious food and special entertainment, including the popular “Disney ¡Viva Navidad!” A new twist to this celebration presents the popular Festive Foods Marketplace with a mix of holiday comfort dishes that bridge many diverse cultures and family traditions.
  • Santa Claus, with a sleigh full of mischievous elves, appears at Redwood Creek Challenge Trail, where guests of all ages will join the festive fun with a series of holiday-themed activities along the trail.
  • For the residents of Cars Land, holiday decorating begins with the whimsical “Snowcar” that greets guests on the road to Radiator Springs. Each address along Route 66 – Flo’s V-8 Café, Fillmore’s, Cozy Cone Motel, Luigi’s Casa della Tires and more – also gets a holiday makeover that reflects the personality of its “Cars” character resident.
  • “a bug’s land” transforms for the holidays, too, as Flik and his bug friends deck their land with oversized lights and ornaments.
  • A dazzling, 50-foot Christmas tree adorns Carthay Circle along Buena Vista Street. The tree and surrounding buildings, inspired by Los Angeles as it appeared when Walt Disney arrived in the 1920s, are decorated with vintage-style ornaments.

At Disneyland Park

  • Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle returns with magical nighttime snowfall moments that conclude with “Believe … in Holiday Magic” fireworks and its stirring snowfall finale.
  • Guests will be enchanted by the soaring Christmas tree in Town Square, Main Street, U.S.A. It’s 60 feet tall and filled with nearly 1,800 ornaments. This festive backdrop is a popular location for holiday photos.
  • Disney characters celebrate the season in “A Christmas Fantasy” parade, a daily procession with floats, music, marching “tin soldiers” and holiday cheer. Santa, who makes a jolly appearance in the parade, also will be found welcoming guests at his special location in Critter Country.
  • Disneyland guests definitely will want to experience the popular seasonal transformations of these park attractions:
    • “it’s a small world” becomes “it’s a small world” Holiday with children around the world enjoying the distinctive holiday traditions of their countries.
    • Haunted Mansion becomes Haunted Mansion Holiday,* with Jack Skellington and his friends from Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” causing a collision between Christmas and Halloween.

The Downtown Disney shopping, dining and entertainment district and the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort join in the holiday festivities with twinkling lights and ornaments, holiday displays, special entertainment and holiday dining with themed menus.

*Haunted Mansion Holiday is inspired by “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

New Halloween Fun, Thrills and Villainous Décor Cast a Spell at Disney California Adventure Park, Sept. 15-Oct. 31

Thu, 2017-08-31 19:10
For the First Time, Cars Land Celebrates ‘Haul-O-Ween’ and a Nightly Transformation Reveals Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark

ANAHEIM, Calif. (August 31, 2017) – For the first time, Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort is also taking over Disney California Adventure Park, with areas such as Buena Vista Street and Cars Land getting all dressed up for holiday fun. The recently-opened Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! attraction gets some additional thrills as it transforms into Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark each night. Additional attractions will receive spooky fun updates, and there will be plenty of Halloween decorations, themed food and beverage, eerie merchandise and more. Combined with favorite Halloween traditions at Disneyland Park including Haunted Mansion Holiday, Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy and Pumpkin Festival on Main Street, U.S.A., Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort is now twice as much fun.

Halloween excitement begins as guests first enter Disney California Adventure. An oversized, shadowy silhouette of Oogie Boogie, the villainous boogeyman from “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas” ominously leers over guests passing through the main entrance. In a spooky but fun moment, Oogie appears to unleash a swarm of bats which sound as if they fly down Buena Vista Street towards Hollywood Land, Cars Land and beyond. Guests will even see the bats circling the tower of the Carthay Circle Theatre.

Cars Land Haul-O-Ween

Everyone’s favorite Cars characters have transformed Radiator Springs into their own Haul-O-Ween celebration. Scary the “Scare-car” greets guests at the entrance of Route 66 for a special photo opportunity. Each of the Cars has decorated its establishment for the season. With Fillmore showing off his Jack-Oil-Lanterns and ghostly folk art, Sarge displaying his “pump-kins,” and a Spider-Car spinning webs all over the outside of Flo’s V8 Café, the town of Radiator Springs will indeed be transformed into Radiator Screams!

Two of the attractions also have been transformed for Halloween for the first time. Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree becomes Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree. Expect to hear some creepy, new songs and fun haunted twists on other hits, including “Monster Truck Smash” and “Welcome to Radiator Screams” as guests whirl around the graveyard. Additionally, Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters becomes Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween, an all-new spooktacular dance celebration where Luigi and Guido entertain the cugini (cousins) with Halloween twists to traditional Italian festival songs like the “Terror-antella,” “The Chop Top of Carsoli” and more. It’s hair-raising fun … for a limited time!

Also, for the first time, the Cars characters will be donning their Halloween “car-stumes” as they greet guests and prepare to go “trunk-or-treating.” Mater will be wearing his vampire or “van-pire” outfit, while Lightning McQueen is dressed as a super hero. Cruz Ramirez, Red the Fire Truck and DJ get dressed up as a pirate, a clown and a punk rocker, respectively.

Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark

Fans were thrilled when Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! opened in May at Disney California Adventure Park, and now they’re in for a scary Halloween treat as the attraction is transformed nightly into Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark. During the day, guests continue to experience the excitement, fun and six different ride experiences on Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! However, each evening the attraction transforms from Mission: BREAKOUT! to Monsters After Dark. The Collector’s Fortress goes dark, alarms sound and all-new lighting on the exterior of the Fortress alerts guests that something inside has gone awry.

As guests enter the Lobby of the Fortress, they will be startled by flashing alarms and creepy sounds – warning signs that creatures have escaped their vitrines (glass cages) and all kinds of chaos is erupting. The Collector’s ever-resourceful assistant, Apheta, tries to keep calm by reassuring guests that all is in order, and this is just a momentary setback.

In keeping with the dark humor of the experience, an all-new 1970s-style punk rock song, “Monsters After Dark,” enhances the thrill of the experience. The song was written especially for this attraction by Tyler Bates, composer for the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films.

Buena Vista Street Halloween Décor

Along Buena Vista Street, guests will enjoy Halloween decorations in store windows and in Carthay Circle, they’ll see a new 10-foot-tall statue of the Headless Horseman himself, holding up his jack-o’-lantern head to the sky. New, themed background music further creates the appropriately eerie, but still fun, mood.

Mickey and his friends also will be in the area, donning their period-appropriate Halloween costumes, such as a bat for Mickey Mouse, a ghost for Goofy and a witch for Daisy Duck – all in playful fun, of course.

Frighteningly Refreshing Food and Beverages

Throughout the park, Halloween-themed food and beverage offerings will include:

  • Bat Wing Raspberry Sundae (Clarabelle’s Hand-Scooped Ice Cream) – white chocolate-raspberry swirl ice cream with raspberry splatter, blood-red sprinkles, whipped cream and bat wing cookie;
  • Spider Silk Ice Cream Sandwich (Clarabelle’s Hand-Scooped Ice Cream) – a black macaron with charcoal-tart cherry spun ice cream topped with popping candy and drops of raspberry sauce;
  • Sleepy Hollow Cupcake (Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Cafe) – red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting, raspberry drizzle and Headless Horseman chocolate decoration;
  • Green Apple Spell Lemonade (Smokejumpers Grill) – lemonade, green apple syrup and cherry drops;
  • Monstermallow Donut (Schmoozies) – flaky, croissant donut in the shape of Mike Wazowski from “Monster, Inc.,” filled with marshmallow cream;
  • “Ghost”-ly Pepper Nachos (Cove Bar) – ghost pepper-marinated flank steak with green tortilla chips, topped with ghost pepper cheese sauce, black beans and avocado-tomatillo salsa;
  • Pumpkin Raisin Bread Pudding and Anchor Blood Orange Blondie (Pacific Wharf Café);
  • Slow Burnin’ Mac & Cheese Cone (Cozy Cone Motel) – fresh-cooked pasta with spicy red pepper cheese sauce, served in a Black Cauldron Cone and topped with crushed chile-cheese puffs;
  • Car-achnid Pot Pie (Flo’s V8 Café) – chicken pot pie with dried cranberries and butter-crust spider; and
  • Purple, green and orange-colored Churros, Mickey Bat Cookies and Candy Corn Cotton Candy (locations throughout the park).

Mickey’s Halloween Party Mix-In

Disney California Adventure also will be featured for the first time as part of the pre-party mix-in for Mickey’s Halloween Party, a separate-ticket event that features special entertainment, Disney characters in their Halloween attire, and trick or treating at locations throughout Disneyland. This year, a ticket to Mickey’s Halloween Party has even greater value as guests will be able to visit Disney California Adventure as well as Disneyland during the three hours prior to the beginning of the party in Disneyland Park.

Tickets for Mickey’s Halloween Party may be purchased online and on mobile devices at http://Disneyland.com/party as well as at the Disneyland Resort main gate and by phone at 714-781-4400.

Halloween at Disney California Adventure Park Brings Monster Mayhem to New Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark

Thu, 2017-08-24 22:00

Popular, New Attraction Transforms Nightly During Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort

Anaheim, Calif. (August 24, 2017) – Fans were thrilled when Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! opened in May at Disney California Adventure Park, and now they’re in for a scary Halloween treat as the attraction is transformed nightly into Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark. The creepy chaos of creatures on the loose and Rocket scheming to save Groot adds to the high-energy action, only during Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort, Sept. 15-Oct. 31, 2017.

In Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, Rocket finds his Guardians of the Galaxy pals trapped in the Fortress of The Collector, Taneleer Tivan, and guests assist him with a daring escape plan. The Monsters After Dark transformation picks up moments afterward, as Rocket discovers that in the hurry to free his friends, they have inadvertently left Groot behind. Now Rocket needs to distract all the monsters he has unleashed inside the Fortress, and he enlists the guests to help while he rescues his little friend.

“The Monsters After Dark story hinges on irreverence, on top of the irreverence that’s already in the attraction,” said Joe Rohde, creative executive for Walt Disney Imagineering. “It’s creepy, chaotic and very funny.”

The attraction transforms from Mission: BREAKOUT! to Monsters After Dark each evening. The Collector’s Fortress goes dark, alarms sound and all-new lighting on the exterior of the Fortress alerts guests that something inside has gone awry.

As guests enter the Lobby of the Fortress, they may be startled by flashing alarms and creepy sounds – warning signs that creatures have escaped their vitrine cages and all kinds of chaos is erupting. Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark is only available during Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort. Guests may check park time guides or http://Disneyland.com for the timing of this nightly transformation.

Mon, 2017-08-21 19:17

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Aug. 21, 2017) — On August 10, 2017, construction teams installed the highest steel beam for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, a new Star Wars-themed land coming to Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif., in 2019. This milestone capped off the infrastructure for a 130-foot-tall rock spire, the highest point in the new land. Once completed, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will include approximately 10,000 tons of structural steel and approximately 200,000 square feet of hand-carved rockwork. The same 14-acre land also is under construction at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Both are scheduled to open in 2019.

Breakout Hits Pandora, Guardians of the Galaxy Continue a Blockbuster Summer of New Attractions and Experiences at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts

Tue, 2017-08-01 21:35
“Don’t Miss It!” “Jaw Dropping.” “Holy WOW.” “Absolutely breathtaking.” “Like Nothing I’ve Ever Seen Before.” “Amazing.” – comments on Social Media

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. and ANAHEIM, Calif. (August 1, 2017) – Since their debuts May 27, the groundbreaking Pandora – The World of Avatar at Walt Disney World Resort and Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! at the Disneyland Resort have turned a Blockbuster Summer at both resorts into blockbuster hits with guests.

Outstanding guest ratings and sensational reviews of both new additions are proof that this Disney double feature is like no other. And the best news of all? There’s still plenty of summer left for guests to book a Disney vacation to soar with banshees and run with Super Heroes.

At Walt Disney World Resort, Pandora – The World of Avatar transports guests to a mystical world of bioluminescent rainforests and floating mountains. Inspired by the epic film AVATAR from director James Cameron, the all-new land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park invites guests to soar in simulated flight on the wings of banshees and sail a sacred river leading to an unforgettable encounter with the Shaman of Songs.

At the Disneyland Resort, outrageous and irreverent characters from the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, comics and animated series lead guests on a high-energy adventure in Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! The chaotic and hilarious adventure at Disney California Adventure Park combines breathtaking free-fall sensations with all-new visual and audio effects as guests help rescue the Guardians.

Guest enthusiasm for Guardians and Pandora has carried over to all facets of the new experiences. Some examples:

Pandora – The World of Avatar

  • Pet banshees fly off the shelves – Pet banshees found at the Windtraders merchandise location have become a certifiable craze, initially selling out within a month of Pandora’s grand opening. These banshees can perch on your shoulder, and their movements and sounds can be controlled by hand. While banshees have “flown” off the shelves, limited supplies have been reappearing in Windtraders with more on the way.
  • A wall becomes an internet sensation – The moss wall in Pandora – The World of Avatar has taken the social media world by storm. Located just outside Windtraders, the wall has become a must-see for Disney fans who flock to it as a worthy selfie spot. It has prompted the creation of Instagram accounts and hashtags resulting in more than 9,700 posts and over 2,500 new “moss wall” followers. The first #mosswall tweets date to early May when Pandora was in previews and continue strong to this day.
  • A specialty beverage gets “glowing” reviews – At Pongu Pongu refreshment station, the exotic Night Blossom is a huge hit with guests.  This neon-colorful frozen creation is inspired by Pandora.  It features layers of apple and pear flavors mixed with limeade and topped with passion fruit boba balls. More than 2,000 are served every day.  The drink is especially popular after nightfall when it and all of Pandora take on a bioluminescent glow.

Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!

  • With its high-energy, surprising visuals and hilarious, thrill-a-minute action, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! has been an instant hit with Disney California Adventure guests. Mere weeks since its opening on May 27, the attraction has become the highest-rated thrill ride in all of the Disneyland Resort as guests immerse themselves in the chaotic world of The Collector, Rocket and the Guardians of the Galaxy.
  • The new “I Am Groot” bread has become a favorite snack in the park and is selling out almost daily. Shaped like the face of Baby Groot – the popular “Guardians of the Galaxy” character – this sourdough bread has olives for eyes and is available in plain or a jalapeno-cheddar flavor. Along with being a delicious treat, the bread has become a selfie accessory. Guests are posing with the bread in photos across social media, declaring “I am Groot.”
  • Guests at Disney California Adventure are traveling the galaxy in style with the latest trends on Terra (Earth).  Hot-selling summer items include stylish, blue “Guardians of the Galaxy” baseball caps, Baby Groot plush and the tunes of Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix Vol. 2! on vinyl. The cute, 9-inch Baby Groots are showing up on shoulders all over the theme park. These and more galactic treasures are sold at The Collector’s Warehouse, near Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!

The two, all-new experiences are just the beginning of the fun at the Disney theme parks on both coasts this summer:

Also at Walt Disney World Resort

The stunning world of Pandora headlines a full lineup of new attractions and experiences at Walt Disney World Resort.

  • “Happily Ever After,” new for summer and the most breathtaking fireworks/projection show in the history of the Magic Kingdom Park, dazzles guests nightly in a spectacular journey filled with heart, humor and emotion.

A Symphony of Characters.” Presented nightly through August 26, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the live stage show features a full orchestra and special appearances by favorite Pixar characters.

The Disneyland Railroad now travels on a trestle that extends out into the Rivers of America, passing five stunning waterfalls. Disneyland Railroad Engineers Signal to Guests: Look for Breathtaking New Views When the Trains Reopen July 29

Fri, 2017-07-28 00:54

ANAHEIM, Calif. (July 28, 2017) – Fascinated by everything from steam-powered locomotives to Walt Disney’s love of trains, fans of the Disneyland Railroad are eager to hop aboard once again for a narrated tour of Disneyland Park. They have eagerly anticipated the July 29 re-opening of this iconic attraction, almost as much as another group of fans who admire the Disneyland Railroad: the engineers and cast members who care for the trains year-round.

Robert Rodriguez, Norm Arakaki, John Scott and Craig Ludwick are part of the knowledgeable crew who work on the Disneyland Railroad. Their primary job is preserve the trains, keep them running smoothly and carry on the legacy of steam-powered transportation. Some of them have spent nearly 30 years maintaining, operating and even polishing these trains for their 365-day-a-year operation.

The engineers’ most recent task has been preparing the Disneyland Railroad for its new adventures through Frontierland, where guests will discover a breathtaking new view of stunning rockwork and waterfalls along both sides of the train. The trains will now travel over a trestle that closely hugs a dramatic new shoreline along the Rivers of America, and for the first time engineers will make a left-hand turn as part of the park tour.

Representing their team, these Disneyland Railroad experts signaled to guests what they can expect the next time they hop aboard, and also shared some thoughts about working on this unique attraction.

  • “Once our guests see those new waterfalls and the lighting and the amazing rock work … you’re going to hear them say, ‘Oh Wow! Look at that!” – Craig Ludwick
  • “The train passes really close to the back of Big Thunder Mountain, and you can actually see the reactions of guests on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad as they come up over the climb.” – John Scott
  • “It takes well-trained people who care about what they’re doing to keep these trains running smoothly every day of the year.” – John Scott
  • “The trains are an icon of Disneyland. When you think of Disneyland, one of the first things that comes to mind is the Disneyland Railroad.” – Norm Arakaki
  • “Any way that we, as cast members, can inspire the guests to have a passion for these trains like Walt Disney did – that’s fantastic.” – Robert Rodriguez
  • “When you fire the locomotive, you need two components to make steam. You need a fuel source to fuel the fire and you need water. We actually burn bio-diesel and it’s environmentally friendly.” – Robert Rodriguez

These engineers also shared some of their favorite historical trivia and fun facts about the Disneyland Railroad:

  • The Disneyland Railroad features five steam engines along with four open-air cars easily identified by their red steel frames and striped awnings. The cars seat passengers in two different styles. In one style, guests face forward, toward the engine. In the other style, guests face the park. The second style was designed by Walt Disney to allow guests a full view of the sights on the Disneyland tour.
  • Engine 1, C.K. Holiday, and Engine 2, E.P. Ripley, were both built especially for Disneyland by WED Enterprises (now Walt Disney Imagineering) in Burbank, California, U.S.A.. The other engines, Fred Gurley, Ernest S. Marsh, and Ward Kimball, were later additions to the Disneyland Railroad.
  • Along with the C.K. Holliday, the E.P. Ripley was present at the opening ceremonies of Disneyland in July 1955. Walt Disney occasionally took the throttle of both trains for excursions around his park.
  • The Fred Gurley, the oldest of any engine on a Disney Park railroad, celebrated its 120th anniversary in 2014.
  • Whistles on a steam locomotive have a unique sound depending on the whistle’s shape, size, and pressure. At Disneyland, engineers have a tradition of blowing the whistle while pulling into the Main Street Station, alerting the crew to which train is arriving. Some of the engineers have even created a signature whistle.
  • Also popular on the Disneyland Railroad are two diorama scenes. The 306‐foot‐long Grand Canyon Diorama has been updated and guests will notice some fun surprises. They’ll also continue to enjoy the large background painting of the Grand Canyon created by Delmer J. Yoakum in 1958. It took more than 300 gallons of paint to create. Guests will notice exciting, new elements in the Primeval World Diorama, too.
  • Walt Disney’s love of trains was inspired by two of his animators, Ward Kimball and Ollie Johnston, railfans who had backyard railroads of their own. Walt visited their homes to take a turn in the cab and this left quite an impression; so much so that Walt started a train collection of his own.
  • Ward Kimball added a unique piece to his train-related collection: the Grizzly Flats Depot from a set piece built for the 1949 Disney film, So Dear to My Heart. The Grizzly Flats Depot was the model for New Orleans Square Station in Disneyland Park and it was acquired in 2007 by John Lasseter, now chief creative officer of Pixar and Walt Disney Animation and principal creative advisor for Walt Disney Imagineering.
  • Disney animator Ollie Johnston was the owner of the Marie E. engine, which is credited with inspiring Walt Disney’s Carolwood Pacific and Disneyland Park.

Disneyland Park Welcomes Back the Disneyland Railroad and Classic Attractions July 29, with Stunning New Views Along the Rivers of America

Fri, 2017-07-28 00:52
Mark Twain Riverboat, Sailing Ship Columbia, Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes and ‘Fantasmic!’ Return to Add More Fun for Summer 2017

ANAHEIM Calif. (July 28, 2017) – Guests visiting the Disneyland Resort this summer will enjoy the magical mix of nostalgia, nighttime entertainment and new attractions that make the Resort a guest favorite year after year.

The Disneyland Railroad, an original Disneyland attraction and park icon, re-opens July 29, 2017. This fan-favorite attraction now travels a new scenic route along the north bank of the Rivers of America, where it traverses stunning new rockwork and waterfalls providing guests with breathtaking views along both sides of the train.  Guests also will enjoy this new landscape from the water as they welcome the return of the popular watercraft – Mark Twain Riverboat, Sailing Ship Columbia and Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes.

Kim Irvine, art director for the Rivers of America project, envisioned what it will be like for guests: “It’s hard to believe that right here, smack dab in the middle of bustling freeways and high-rises, you can enjoy a relaxing ride on an open-air train car and sail on a ship or canoe down a rolling river, surrounded by towering pine and oak trees with sightings of deer, elk, moose and beautiful waterfalls.”

Another classic, Fantasmic!,” re-opened July 17 on the Rivers of America, telling the story of Mickey Mouse and his vivid imagination, Guests cheered as they welcomed back this nighttime spectacular’s classic theme song and the engaging storyline that has been treasured for 25 years. And explorers celebrated the re-opening of Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island in June.

At Disneyland Park

Once again, guests will enter Walt Disney’s original Magic Kingdom to the sounds of train whistles and chugging engines, a familiar part of the Disneyland Railroad. The steam-powered locomotives, among the few still operating today, take guests on relaxing and entertaining tour through the park. And, for the first time, engineers guide the trains on a left-hand turn in the park after they venture over a trestle that closely hugs a dramatic new shoreline along the Rivers of America in Frontierland.

A gorgeous new Columbia Gorge section highlighted by five new picturesque waterfalls is the backdrop as guests enjoy their journey aboard one of Walt Disney’s favorite attractions.  Landscapes inspired by four of America’s majestic rivers – the Mississippi, the Columbia, the Missouri and the Rio Grande – are carefully recreated, complete with indigenous rock formations, natural forests and wildlife, and the waterfalls.

The sounds will be as entertaining as all the sights as guests listen to singing birds, eagle cries, the whinny of an Indian Chief’s horse, a Riverboat captain’s voice, an emotional score and more. As the tour continues, conductors narrate the trip with stops at Mickey’s Toontown, Tomorrowland, Main Street, U.S.A., and New Orleans Square.

Just before pulling into the Main Street Station, guests are transported to a new place and new time as they view dioramas of the Grand Canyon and Primeval World. Updated for the first time since opening in 1958, the Grand Canyon section creates a dramatic experience with refurbished flora and fauna, some fun surprises and the orchestral Grand Canyon Suite by Ferde Grofé. In the Primeval World, newly painted sets, dinosaurs and creatures blend with new effects and lighting.

For nighttime entertainment, “Fantasmic!” returns this summer featuring new scenes with characters from “Aladdin,” “Tangled,” “The Lion King” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.” One dazzling sequence finds Aladdin and Jasmine discovering “A Whole New World” as they float on their flying carpet over a bed of fog on the Rivers of America. The sensational “Fantasmic!” adventures come alive with new mist screens and innovative projection mapping technology to create visuals that are brighter and more vibrant than ever before.

Limited-Time Only Opportunities

While guests are enjoying the return of the popular Rivers of America entertainment, they are making sure to experience the family fun that will soon be gone.

The Main Street Electrical Parade continues nightly performances at Disneyland, through August 20, with favorite scenes such as Cinderella’s ball, the appearance (and disappearance) of Elliot, the smoke-breathing, tail-wagging “Pete’s Dragon,” and the glittering “To Honor America” finale.

And at Disney California Adventure Park, guests are screaming with thrills on the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission: BREAKOUT! attraction while they “Hero Up” and take in all of the excitement of Summer of Heroes.  This epic celebration, which brings Super Heroes to life like never before in Hollywood Land, runs through Sept. 10, 2017.

Disney California Adventure Park Celebrates the Bonds of Family and the Spirit of Día de los Muertos Beginning Sept. 15

Mon, 2017-07-17 21:09
New Seasonal Experience Features Disney•Pixar Animated Film ‘Coco’

ANAHEIM, Calif. (July. 17, 2017) – This fall and winter, guests at Disney California Adventure Park will discover a new seasonal experience that celebrates the everlasting bonds of family while drawing inspiration from the traditional Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead.

From Sept. 15 through Nov. 2, this immersive celebration will include special entertainment featuring musicians and dancers, activities including a representation of iconic Mexican folk art, and special décor and food inspired by this lively, colorful tradition.

The celebration at Disney California Adventure features the upcoming Disney•Pixar animated motion picture, “Coco,” with special themed experiences inspired by the film. Select elements of the celebration will move to “a bug’s land” beginning Sunday, Nov. 5, where they will be presented alongside a special sneak peek of the film, which continues through the holiday season until Jan. 7, 2018.

Guests who cruise into Cars Land between Sept. 15-Oct. 31, 2017, will find that Ramone, one of the citizens of Cars Land, also pays tribute to Día de los Muertos. Ramone celebrates this time when families gather to remember their loved ones with a full-sized Sugar Skull Car and a traditional “ofrenda” display honoring the gone, but not forgotten, Doc Hudson.

Disneyland Park will continue to offer its traditional Día de los Muertos skeleton display in Frontierland, from Sept. 15-Nov. 2, 2017.

Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort Adds More Spooky Fun than Ever Before with Expansion into Disney California Adventure Park, Sept. 15-Oct. 31, 2017

Mon, 2017-07-17 17:28
Cars Land Transforms for ‘Haul-O-Ween,’ Oogie Boogie Takes Over Disney California Adventure, and Guests Now Get to ‘Mix-In’ at Both Parks Prior to Mickey’s Halloween Party Ticket Sales for Popular Mickey’s Halloween Party Begin July 17 for Annual Passholders; July 24 for the General Public

ANAHEIM, Calif. (July. 17, 2017) – A spell is cast during Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort as more spooky fun expands into Disney California Adventure Park this year, from Friday, Sept. 15, through Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017.

At Disney California Adventure Park

For the first time, Cars Land in Disney California Adventure will transform with a special Haul-O-Ween makeover as the citizens of Radiator Springs don Halloween costumes and decorate their respective homes for the season. Lightning McQueen, Mater, Cruz, Red and DJ will be all dressed up–as a super hero, a “van-pire,” a pirate, a clown and a punk rocker, ready to go “trunk-or-treating.” Attractions transform, too, with Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree turning spooky as the Graveyard JamBOOree, and Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters getting a seasonal twist to become Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween.

Scary the Scarecar will stand guard over the entrance to Route 66, a preview to the Haul-O-Ween transformation awaiting guests in Cars Land. With Fillmore’s Jack-Oil Lanterns, the web spun over Flo’s by a Spider-Car, and the Cozy Cone dressed up in car-stumes, the townsfolk turn Radiator Springs into Radiator Screams.

Oogie Boogie appears for the first time at Disney California Adventure, too, taking over with his twisted tale of a forever Halloween, inspired by “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Oogie Boogie’s oversized silhouette beckons guests through the main entrance of the park and he brings to life a swarm of bats around Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge.

Disney California Adventure also will be featured for the first time as part of the pre-party mix-in for Mickey’s Halloween Party, a separate-ticket event that features special entertainment, Disney characters in their Halloween attire, and trick or treating at locations throughout Disneyland. This year, a ticket to Mickey’s Halloween Party has even greater value as guests will be able to visit Disney California Adventure as well as Disneyland during the three hours prior to the beginning of the party in Disneyland.

Tickets to the popular Mickey’s Halloween Party go on sale Monday, July 17 for Annual Passholders, Disney Vacation Club members and Disney Visa Card holders. Tickets go on sale Monday, July 24 for the general public. They may be purchased online and on mobile devices at http://Disneyland.com/party as well as at the Disneyland Resort main gate and by phone at 714-781-4400

At Disneyland Park

At Disneyland, guests will enjoy frightfully fun thrills on popular Halloween attractions Haunted Mansion Holiday and Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy, along with themed foods and merchandise, plus spooky décor that includes a giant Mickey Mouse jack-o’-lantern and a Pumpkin Festival on Main Street, U.S.A.

Haunted Mansion Holiday celebrates the collision between Halloween and Christmas as Jack Skellington, from the Walt Disney Pictures classic “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas,” offers his unique take on the holidays. The annual Haunted Mansion Holiday gingerbread house, presents a new design each year, and this year it’s the creepy Oogie Boogie in the form of a 7-foot-tall cookie on the table in the Mansion ballroom. He is peeling back the roof of a gingerbread Haunted Mansion, uncovering myriad gummy bugs and worms.

Another Halloween Time favorite at Disneyland is Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy, a reimagining of the popular thrill ride in Tomorrowland. Guests on board the speeding Space Mountain vehicles are thrust into a ghostly galaxy where they are surrounded by eerie screams, sound effects and music. Spine-chilling spirits pop out of the darkness, appearing to reach out and menace the space travelers.

Disneyland will continue to offer its traditional Diá de los Muertos skeleton display in Frontierland for the Halloween season, through Nov. 2.

Mickey’s Halloween Party

Guests are invited to dress in costume for Mickey’s Halloween Party where they will trick-or-treat throughout Disneyland for candy and healthy snacks. And this year, capturing memories during the party will be easier than ever as guests who have admission to Mickey’s Halloween Party will enjoy the added bonus of unlimited Disney PhotoPass.

Another extra-special treat is the “Halloween Screams” fireworks spectacular, a Mickey’s Halloween Party tradition presented exclusively for party guests and hosted by “Master of Scare-omonies” Jack Skellington.

Also exclusive to Mickey’s Halloween Party is the “Frightfully Fun Parade” led by The Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow (from the Disney animated classic “The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad”). The Horseman rides through the park on his ghostly black steed with a flickering jack-o’-lantern to usher in the parade featuring Jack Skellington followed by a procession of grim, grinning (and hitchhiking) ghosts from the iconic Haunted Mansion attraction. The creepy Dr. Facilier from Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog” calls on mystical powers, summoning his Shadow Men from the bayou to loom large over his strange and twisted Voodoo parlor. The mischievous Disney villains appear out of the darkness, ready to stir up some trouble. The wicked gathering includes the Evil Queen, Jafar and Cruella.

Disney characters–villains as well as Mickey Mouse and friends–will appear at locations throughout the park, and the Cadaver Dans ghostly quartet will perform on the Rivers of America in New Orleans Square and Frontierland.

Another popular feature of the party, the opportunity for guests to “mix in” with regular park guests for three hours prior to the party’s opening time, now will allow visits between Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks.

Beginning July 24, Mickey’s Halloween Party Tickets* may be purchased by the public online and on mobile devices at http://Disneyland.com/party, as well as at the Disneyland Resort main gate and by phone at 714-781-4400. Guests may check for availability for the 14 nights: Wednesday, Sept. 20; Friday, Sept. 22, Monday, Sept. 25; Wednesday, Sept. 27; Friday, Sept. 29; Tuesday, Oct. 3; Friday, Oct. 6; Tuesday, Oct. 10; Friday, Oct. 13; Tuesday, Oct. 17; Friday, Oct. 20; Tuesday, Oct. 24; Friday, Oct. 27; and Tuesday, Oct. 31, Halloween night. Nighttime Spectacular ‘Fantasmic!’ Returns to Disneyland Park with New Scenes and Dazzling Visual Effects

Sun, 2017-07-16 01:39
Monday, July 17, Marks Both the Premiere of a Newly Enhanced ‘Fantasmic!’ and the Anniversary of the 1955 Grand Opening of Disneyland

ANAHEIM, Calif. (July 17, 2017) –“Fantasmic!,” Disney’s popular and longest-running nighttime spectacular, returns to the Rivers of America in Disneyland Park July 17, 2017, with enhanced, awe-inspiring effects; innovative, state-of-the-art projection technology; and new storytelling elements.

Also on July 17, guests will celebrate the 62nd anniversary of the grand opening of Disneyland, envisioned by Walt Disney as a place where family members of all ages can have fun together. For more than six decades, Disneyland Resort has explored the frontiers of interactive storytelling and entertainment technology, bringing exciting attractions and innovative entertainment to life for guests from around the world. Walt Disney’s promise for a new family entertainment concept continues today: “Disneyland will never be completed … as long as there is imagination left in the world.”

The return of “Fantasmic!” builds on that promise, taking the journey into Mickey Mouse’s imagination to brilliant new heights. The story that has been treasured by Disneyland guests for more than 25 years continues, as Mickey Mouse conjures dreams of beauty, adventure, romance and, in the show’s thrilling climax, danger.

New magic is incorporated with Aladdin and Jasmine floating over a bed of fog on their flying carpet, Captain Jack Sparrow at the helm of a ghostly pirate ship, and special new appearances by characters from “The Lion King” and “Finding Nemo.” And Rapunzel and Flynn Rider from “Tangled” join other Disney couples in an inspiring romantic sequence.

Additional enhancements give the popular show an even brighter look, with more vibrant projections and new mist screens. Every inch of every surface on the show’s island “stage” has been digitally mapped. Projection mapping and three-dimensional video combine, allowing the creative team to transform the island as never before. All technical elements of the show, including lighting, fountains and water screens, have been upgraded.

The return of “Fantasmic!” also coincides with the return of some classic Disneyland attractions this summer. The Disneyland Railroad, Pirates’ Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, and the watercraft that sail around the Rivers of America in Frontierland, Mark Twain Riverboat, Sailing Ship Columbia, Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes, all return on July 29, 2017.

This summer guests at Disneyland also have a last chance to view the lights, music and fun of the beloved Main Street Electrical Parade through Aug. 20, 2017. Nightly performances of the parade feature favorites such as Cinderella’s ball, Elliot, the smoke-breathing, tail-waggin’ “Pete’s Dragon” and the glittering “To Honor America” finale.

Guests this summer also will enjoy Summer of Heroes, a new, limited-time celebration at Disney California Adventure Park.  Guests are invited to experience epic adventures with some of their favorite Super Heroes through Sept.10, 2017, along with the new attraction, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, which opened May 27, 2017.

 “FANTASMIC!” FUN FACTS

  • Central to the magic of “Fantasmic!” are the three mist screens, each 60 feet wide by 30 feet tall, upon which the films are projected.
  • New scenes will feature songs such as “Friend Like Me” and “A Whole New World” from Disney’s animated classic, “Aladdin.”
  • A crew of ghost pirates man an eerie pirate ship that appears on the Rivers of  America. These professional stunt performers execute all the spectacular duels and falls.
  • More than 100 cast and crew bring “Fantasmic!” to life, in the 23-minute show.
  • As part of the “Fantasmic!” story, the wicked Maleficent from “Sleeping Beauty” will rise to a height of 45 feet in 17 seconds, before transforming into the dragon.
  • The dragon is a fully animated three-dimensional design that replicates the movements of the dragon in “Sleeping Beauty ” The dragon is 45 feet tall by 28 feet wide and weighs approximately 18,000 pounds.
  • The dragon lights the Rivers of America on fire for 25 seconds
  • Approximately 9,000 guests can view “Fantasmic!” at each performance.  The audience is approximately 70 feet from the main stage on Tom Sawyer Island.
  • Water effects include 21 fountains and six “whale tails” in the scene when Monstro the whale charges across the Rivers of America
  • At the beginning of the show, two light towers appear on either side of the main stage. During the day, these towers rest 26 feet underground. They rise to a height of 40 feet in less than a minute.
  • The audio surrounding “Fantasmic!” spectators is created by four speaker stacks on Tom Sawyer Island and three on the mainland.
  • Kaa, the conniving snake from “The Jungle Book” who slithers across the “Fantasmic!” stage, is 100 feet long.
HISTORY OF “FANTASMIC!”
  • “Fantasmic!” premiered to the public on May 15, 1992, at Disneyland
  • An enhanced version of that original “Fantasmic” presentation, featuring digital projections and the spectacular new 45-foot-tall dragon, premiered June 12, 2009.
  • The main stage on Tom Sawyer Island, including underground housing for many special effects, was specially built for “Fantasmic!” By day, it is a boat dock and “cider mill” visited by guests on the island.
  • In 1992, the original estimate for the prospective audience size was 6,500. Spectators, however, found every space they could and the average number of guests per performance was 11,000 that first summer.
  • Within days, the area was re-landscaped to accommodate more guests in the viewing areas. “Fantasmic!” was scheduled for three shows per night that year, and extended to four shows on July 4 and New Year’s Eve. Before summer 1993 arrived, the walkways and planters in New Orleans Square had been redesigned in the “terrace” style from which today’s guests view the show.
  • A different version of “Fantasmic!” premiered in October 1998 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (then Disney-MGM Studios) at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

Sun, 2017-07-16 00:00

Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar and a seventh cruise ship among the experiences coming for guests

ANAHEIM, Calif. (July 15, 2017) – Today at D23 Expo 2017, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts announced an extraordinary line-up of brand new attractions and experiences coming to its parks and resorts around the world as it continues to revolutionize the guest experience, starting from before guests even arrive for a Disney vacation to the many memories that last a lifetime.

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek welcomed nearly 7,000 fans as he unveiled more than a dozen new experiences coming to Disney parks and resorts and gave a sneak peek at much-anticipated projects in development. Several Imagineers joined the presentation by providing details of the creativity, imagination and innovation in development around the world. Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios John Lasseter also shared his enthusiasm for plans to include a larger Pixar presence at Disneyland Resort.

In addition to the announcement that Fantasmic! will return to Disneyland Park tonight, two nights early in honor of the Expo, fans were treated to a glimpse of the new “Beauty and the Beast” musical production coming to the Disney Dream on Disney Cruise Line, currently in production in Toronto, and a special one-night-only medley of nostalgic entertainment numbers showcasing the heritage of Disney Parks.

“On the heels of the many new and incredibly popular experiences that just debuted this year, the best is yet to come. We have ambitious plans for our parks and resorts around the world,” said Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.  “We’re investing in the guest experience like never before, and we’re doing it all in way that is only possible at Disney!”

From new lodging and transportation options that make getting around more fun, to original storytelling and immersive experiences based on guests’ favorites, Disney continues to provide unparalleled vacation destinations for guests across the globe in even more exciting ways than ever before.

Immersive Theme Park Experiences and Attractions

An Unprecedented First Look at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Fans were elated to hear their Star Wars stories will come to life in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the newly announced name for the Star Wars-themed lands. Chapek shared exciting new details and a glimpse inside the two anchor attractions, including one that puts guests right in the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance where guests will feel like they are inside

a hangar bay on a Star Destroyer. Guests will also have the chance to fly the Millennium Falcon, where each guest is critical to the mission’s success. Chapek also revealed many characters that guests will meet, including BB-8, Chewbacca, Rex and Kylo Ren. Representing the largest single-themed land expansion at 14 acres each, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open in 2019, with the first land debuting at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, then at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando.

Timeless Transformation of Epcot Revealed

Looking ahead to the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World, there are grand plans to complete the transformation that started with the debut of New Fantasyland in 2014. Chapek announced exciting plans across Epcot to realize the original vision of the park while making it more timeless and relevant than ever before. Patterned after the number one family attraction at Disneyland Paris, Ratatouille will be added in an all-new space in the France pavilion at World Showcase. Epcot will also see the addition of a brand new E-ticket attraction based on the rockin’ and action-packed world of Guardians of the Galaxy, the next step in how guests can encounter these characters at Walt Disney World Resort. In Future World, a new Green Mission at Mission: SPACE will take guests on a stunning tour around the Earth, and an updated Orange Mission will make the trip to Mars even more spectacular. Adjacent to Mission: Space will be a new restaurant that will invite guests to travel high above the earth for an unforgettable dining experience.

More Thrills than Ever Planned for Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom

Disney remains at the cutting edge of deeply immersive, creative storytelling that draws guests into new worlds, and it is a legacy that lives on in every new Disney Parks experience. The first-ever Mickey-themed ride-through attraction, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, will come to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. With a new original story and lovable attraction theme song, this new state-of-the-art ride-through attraction will take guests on a journey inside the wacky and unpredictable world of Disney Channel’s Emmy Award-winning “Mickey Mouse” cartoon shorts using new technologies that transform the flat cartoon world into an incredible dimensional experience.

Chapek also announced that the highest rated attraction at Shanghai Disneyland is coming to Walt Disney World Resort. A thrilling, Tron-themed attraction will be added in a new area near Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom. Additionally, a new live entertainment theater coming to Main Street, U.S.A., based on the iconic Willis Theater in 1920s Kansas City, will bring world-class entertainment to the world’s most popular park.

Pixar Fun at the Happiest Place on Earth

In addition to announcing the summer 2018 opening of Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Chapek was joined by Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios John Lasseter to unveil plans for Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure, where the pier will take on a brand new look as more favorite Pixar characters and stories come to life, from The Incredibles, to Inside Out to even more Toy Story. Chapek also announced there is more Pixar in store during Pixar Fest at Disneyland Resort. Starting in 2018, this limited-time offering will include a new fireworks spectacular as well as special characters and entertainment moments.

As part of the celebration, the Pixar Play Parade will return to Disneyland Resort – this time at

Disneyland Park – and the fan favorite Paint the Night Parade will move to Disney California Adventure, one of Disney’s longest parade routes.

Disney Cruise Line to Double the Size of its Fleet by 2023

Chapek surprised the crowd by announcing that Disney Cruise Line will add one more ship in its expansion to take family cruise vacations to a whole new level. Joining the other two new ships that were announced just last year, all three ships will be powered by one of the cleanest-burning fuels available, liquefied natural gas. When all three ships are completed by 2023, Disney Cruise Line will have nearly doubled the size of the fleet.

Immersive Hotel Concepts

Among the announcements were projects that infuse even more exciting experiences for resort hotel guests in ways that are only possible at Disney. To the delight of fans, Chapek confirmed ambitious plans to create the most experiential concept ever in an immersive Star Wars-themed hotel at Walt Disney World Resort. Dedicated entirely to the galaxy of Star Wars, it will be a one-of-a-kind experience where a luxury resort meets a multi-day adventure in a galaxy far, far away.

Adding to the immersive resort hotel slate, Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel at Disneyland Paris will transport guests to the action-packed world of Super Heroes, including Iron Man, The Avengers, Spider-Man and more. Guests will be able to explore the Marvel Universe through its comic art, films, Super Hero costumes and more, displayed in the style of a contemporary art gallery.

Leading up to the July 17 opening of Copper Creek Villas & Cabins, Chapek also announced the proposed 15th Disney Vacation Club property, Disney Riviera Resort, coming to Walt Disney World Resort near Epcot.

Seamless Transportation Options

Completing the immersion so guests never have to leave the story while on a Disney vacation, Chapek announced plans that will make getting around Walt Disney World Resort even more fun. An all-new Minnie Van service will provide a point-to-point transportation service in a way that only Disney can do, giving guests an even more seamless resort vacation from start to finish.

Additionally, a whole new transportation system called Disney Skyliner will give guests a birds-eye view of Walt Disney World Resort. This brand new system will connect Disney’s Art of Animation, Pop Century and Caribbean Beach resorts, as well as the proposed new Disney Riviera Resort, with Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the International Gateway at Epcot.

Honoring the Heritage of Disney Parks

In a memorable tribute to the legacy of beloved attractions, entertainment and characters, fans enjoyed a special one-time-only performance of entertainment numbers from Disney Parks

through the years. Following the return of the Main Street Electrical Parade, Chapek hinted there are even more fan favorites in store from Disney Parks’ storied past.

The jaw-dropping new lands will open with two anchor attractions – one that gives guests the chance to pilot the Millennium Falcon on a customized secret mission, and one that puts guests right in the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance. Representing the largest single-themed land expansion at 14 acres each, the Star Wars-themed lands will open in 2019.

However, guests don’t need to wait until 2019 to be immersed in the Star Wars galaxy. Thu, 2017-06-29 22:03
Special Fireworks Display, a Patriotic Parade, Spirited Merchandise and a Heroic Encounter with Captain America Highlight the Reasons to Visit Disneyland Resort This Weekend

ANAHEIM, Calif. (June 29, 2017) – For generations of guests, a visit to the Disneyland Resort is synonymous with fireworks, nighttime spectaculars and celebrations with friends and family. Those experiences make the Happiest Place on Earth an ideal place to spend the Fourth of July this weekend, with fireworks, a parade, a patriotic float and even Captain America on hand as guests celebrate the U.S.A.’s Independence Day.

At Disneyland Park

Guests will enjoy a special patriotic fireworks display, “Disney’s Celebrate America! – A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky.” This fireworks show is presented nightly at 9:30 at Disneyland Park, from July 1-4.

Guests also may watch the nightly Main Street Electrical Parade, which includes the patriotic “To Honor America” finale, at 8:45 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. The finale salutes America with dancers in patriotic dress, a 118-foot-long illuminated American flag and a majestic bald eagle fashioned from brilliant golden lights. Guests may enjoy the Electrical Parade for only a few more weeks, as it performs each night through August 20.

And in Town Square on Main Street, U.S.A., the Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln attraction continues to inspire generations of guests with patriotic storytelling, a famous speech and a salute to President Abraham Lincoln.

At Disney California Adventure Park

On July 4 only, a special patriotic pre-show leads into nightly performances of the “World of Color” spectacular, at 9 and 10:15, in the Paradise Pier area of Disney California Adventure.

While exploring the Summer of Heroes, guests may encounter the most patriotic of all Super Heroes – Captain America himself! Captain America and Spider-Man appear daily in Hollywood Land, near the all-new Guardians of Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! attraction.

Themed Merchandise Resort-wide

Guests searching for Americana-themed merchandise will discover a variety of raglan-style t-shirts, tank tops, trading pins and accessories, including lanyards, a Minnie Mouse headband and more, at select locations throughout the Disneyland Resort. Red-white-and-blue, Captain America-themed merchandise, accessories and toys can also be found throughout the resort including at the Studio Store and The Collector’s Warehouse, both located in Hollywood Land at Disney California Adventure.

At Hotels of the Disneyland Resort and Napa Rose

Hotel guests will enjoy spectacular fireworks viewing from the rooftop pool deck at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel. For club-level guests staying at the Disneyland Hotel and Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, the E-Ticket Club and Craftsman Club — the concierge clubs in both hotels, respectively — also offer ideal viewing of the fireworks spectacular.

At the award-winning Napa Rose restaurant in Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, chefs will give the Vintner’s menu a July 4th flair, adding an all-American wine pairing. Also at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel, Storytellers Café offers special Fourth of July treats.

More Patriotic Fun

In the days leading up to Independence Day, a variety of inspirational bands, honor guards and performances will be featured at the Disneyland Resort. Guests may confirm show times of these performances in the daily park guides.

  • June 28 through July 1: The United States Air Force Honor Guard from Washington, D.C., is scheduled to perform in Disney California Adventure in front of the obelisk at Paradise Pier at 11:30 am, 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm, and in Disneyland at 3:15 pm in Town Square. They will also participate in a 4:05 pm pre-parade performance.

2,000 Days and Nights at the Disneyland Resort

Thu, 2017-06-22 21:17
As Summer of Heroes Continues, Disneyland Resort Guest Jeff Reitz Makes his 2,000th Daily Visit to the Parks of the Disneyland Resort

ANAHEIM (June 22, 2017)–Huntington Beach resident Jeff Reitz, who has visited the parks of the Disneyland Resort every day since January 1, 2012, marked his 2,000th consecutive visit on Thursday, June 22.

When Reitz, a Disneyland Resort Annual Passholder, began his daily sojourns to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park in 2012, the resort was preparing to welcome the exciting new Cars Land, which opened that summer.

This month he’s visiting the parks during Summer of Heroes, a celebration highlighted by Super Hero encounters and the new Guardians of the Galaxy–Mission: BREAKOUT! attraction in Disney California Adventure, which Reitz already has experienced more than a dozen times. He says he looks forward to seeing the popular nighttime spectacular “Fantasmic!” when it returns in an enhanced version on July 17 along the Rivers of America in Disneyland.

Reitz, an Air Force veteran, credits the parks with giving him something to look forward to each day, noting that he enjoys hearing the music as he enters, interacting with the friendly park cast members, and watching the park guests having a good time. He also enjoys the shows and attractions, including one of his favorites, the Matterhorn Bobsleds adventure. Reitz says he plans to continue treating himself to daily park visits for as long as he can.

Come Play with Lightning McQueen, Mater and Cruz Ramirez in Cars Land, Offering Fuel-Driven Fun at the Disneyland Resort

Fri, 2017-06-16 17:00
Radiator Springs Comes to Life at Disney California Adventure Park with Three Attractions, Plus Characters and Familiar Places from the ‘Cars’ Movies

ANAHEIM, Calif. (June 15, 2017) – The Happiest Place on Earth became even happier with the opening of Cars Land, the largest piece of a five-year expansion that was completed in 2012 at Disney California Adventure Park. Cars Land features 12 acres of immersive excitement, offering freewheeling fun for everyone as it brings the town of Radiator Springs to life, just as guests remember it from the Disney●Pixar movie “Cars.”

The thrilling additions of Cars Land, Buena Vista Street and the Carthay Circle Theatre, home of the Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge at Disney California Adventure have added to the storytelling magic of the Disneyland Resort, a world-class, family  vacation destination in Southern California with two theme parks, three hotels and the Downtown Disney shopping and dining district.

At the time Cars Land opened, Bob Iger, chairman and chief executive officer of The Walt Disney Company, called Cars Land the “crown jewel” of the Disney California Adventure expansion.

“Cars Land is the extraordinary result of a close collaboration between the gifted filmmakers at Pixar Animation Studios and our talented Imagineers and cast members,” Iger said. “It’s also a spectacular example of our ability to take our characters and stories and bring them to life in new and unexpected ways.”

Cars Land invites guests to take the off ramp right into Radiator Springs, “the cutest little town in Carburetor County,” where they enjoy three family attractions showcasing places and characters from the movie: Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters, and Radiator Springs Racers, one of the largest and most elaborate attractions created for a Disney theme park.

Lightning McQueen and Mater make appearances and pose for photos near the Cozy Cone Motel along with their new friend Cruz Ramirez from the Disney●Pixar movie “Cars 3.”

Each attraction and facility has its own personality, allowing guests to get to know more about the characters who live in Radiator Springs. Themed shops and restaurants also look familiar to fans of the movies, including Flo’s V8 Café, Cozy Cone Motel and Ramone’s House of Body Art.

“A lot of the places you will find only inside Cars Land, so we took the theming and storytelling all the way through, in a way that guests will really feel as if the shops, restaurants and attractions are being operated by  that character,” said Kathy Mangum, executive producer of Cars Land. “Everywhere you look there is a funny little car nod. After all, it is a land built by cars.” Many of the automotive winks were inspired by a research trip Imagineers took along Route 66. Others were inspired by working with the animators from Pixar.

“While I love all of the movies we’ve made at Pixar, the ‘Cars’ films are particularly close to my heart, so seeing Radiator Springs come to life at Disney California Adventure is a dream come true,” said John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer, Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios, at the grand opening. “The artistry and attention to detail throughout Cars Land is absolutely incredible, and I couldn’t be more proud of the teams at Pixar and Walt Disney Imagineering who worked side by side to make this project a reality.”

The “Cars” gang gathers to prepare visitors for the big race in Radiator Springs Racers, the high-octane, indoor/outdoor adventure that revs through the beautiful mountains of Ornament Valley. Guests board cars, each with their own personality, for a scenic road trip that takes them through Radiator Springs, with a stop at either Luigi’s Casa Della Tires or Ramone’s House of Body Art. After getting some final racing tips from Doc Hudson, the cars zoom over the roadways in a nose-to-nose, high-speed race, never knowing which car may win.

Elsewhere in Cars Land, Luigi invites guests to ride along with his cousins as they perform the traditional dances of their hometown village in Italy. Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters at Casa Della Tires is the newest addition to in Cars Land and features miniature Italian roadsters moving to upbeat music as they glide and spin. Each dancing car has its own high-spirited personality and signature dance moves so guests enjoy a different ride experience depending on which car they board.

Mater provides his own unique siren song, courtesy of a Junkyard Jukebox that has lured baby tractors into Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree. There, the tractors dance to Mater’s hoedown tune, swinging guests around in trailers they are pulling behind them. It’s a “tow-si-do” square dance to a playlist of seven songs sung by Mater himself.

The streets of Radiator Springs are humming with entertainment, too. DJ, the ultimate party car -– a big road-trippin’ mobile boom box with giant speakers and built-in disc changer – invites his crew to “DJ’s Dance ‘n Drive,” a spontaneous, interactive dance party. And Red the Fire –

Truck recruits guests of all ages to join “Red to the Rescue!”–helping water the flowers and clean up the town of Radiator Springs. (Prepare to get wet!)

The road leading into Cars Land is dotted with large animated neon signs reminiscent of the ‘50s era of cross-country travel along Route 66. As with other aspects of the land, the neon signs are three-dimensional representations of recognizable landmarks from the movie “Cars,” and they come to life each night at sundown when it’s cruisin’ time along the boulevard.

“Cars” fans and other interested shoppers find a great selection of Cars Land and other Disney and Disney●Pixar gifts and souvenirs at the “local” retail shops in Radiator Springs.  Although the interiors of most of these locales weren’t seen in the movie, they were created for Cars Land by Walt Disney Imagineers with their characteristic attention to detail, drawing on inspiration from vintage stops along historic Route 66.

Sarge’s Surplus Hut offers a broad selection of merchandise–kids clothing, costumes, hats, toys and plush–featuring Lightning McQueen, Mater and other “Cars” characters. Radiator Springs Curios is a country-style mercantile with special appeal for collectors of pins themed to all things “Cars.” The shop also stocks magnets, antenna toppers and license plate frames. Ramone’s House of Body Art features the signature items of the Low ‘n Slow Car Club and Champions Custom Speed Shop collections in t-shirts, work shirts, hats and accessories.

Dining options in Cars Land include Flo’s V8 Café, modeled on the quirky roadside eateries along old Route 66. The café serves full meals from a quick-service counter. A windowed “showroom” dining area and adjoining outdoor patio offer a breathtaking view of Cadillac Mountain Range and the vehicles zooming by in Radiator Springs Racers. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at Flo’s, and specialties include chicken tamale with scrambled eggs, brioche French toast with salted caramel and bananas, home-style classics such as pork loin or New York strip loin, plus the house-made Pie-O-Rama for dessert.

The distinctive, orange “cone” architecture of Sally’s Cozy Cone Motel offers quick service cone-themed snacks from five different cones, including ice cream cones, chile “cone” queso, pop “cone” and other “cone”-coctions. Fillmore’s Taste-in celebrates the Cars Land “new age” hippie-van-in-residence. His food and beverage kiosk offers the “high-octane” natural health benefits of fresh fruits, bottled water and juices.

Disneyland Park Celebrates Summer 2017 with New Enhancements for Classic Attractions

Thu, 2017-06-15 17:02
‘Fantasmic!’ Nighttime Spectacular Opens with New Magic on July 17,  the 62nd Anniversary of the Disneyland Resort Breathtaking New Views Await Guests on the Disneyland Railroad and Rivers of America Attractions, Reopening July 29

ANAHEIM (June 15, 2017)– Guests visiting the Disneyland Resort this summer will experience new magic at both theme parks as classic attractions reopen at Disneyland Park in July and the Summer of Heroes festivities continue through Sept. 10 at Disney California Adventure Park, home of the thrilling and hilarious new attraction, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!

Monday, July 17, marks both the anniversary of the 1955 grand opening of Disneyland and the premiere of a newly enhanced “Fantasmic!,” the popular nighttime spectacular.

Beginning July 29, the Disneyland Railroad will once again take guests on a Grand Circle Tour of Walt Disney’s original Magic Kingdom. Classic Rivers of America attractions – the Mark Twain Riverboat, Sailing Ship Columbia and Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes –  will relaunch July 29 as well, bringing new adventures and breathtaking new views. Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island reopens Friday, June 16.

“Fantasmic!,” which tells the story of Mickey Mouse and his vivid imagination, returns to the Rivers of America in Frontierland with its classic theme song and engaging storyline guests have treasured for 25 years. Mickey’s exploration now features new scenes with characters from “Aladdin,” “Tangled,” “The Lion King” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.” One dazzling sequence finds Aladdin and Jasmine discovering “A Whole New World” as they float on their flying carpet over a bed of fog on the Rivers of America.

Those sensational “Fantasmic!” adventures come alive with new mist screens and innovative, state-of-the-art projection technology to create visuals that are brighter and more vibrant than ever before.

The Disneyland Railroad, one of the park’s original attractions, returns with its iconic steam-powered locomotives for new adventures. The Disneyland Railroad will now travel across the rocks on a trestle that extends out into the Rivers of America, and for the first time ever it will make a left-hand turn on its tour of the park. Along the way, guests will enjoy a view of Walt Disney’s legendary Dioramas of the Grand Canyon and Primeval World, which have been carefully restored to their original splendor with a bit of new magic added to both.

Guests on board the Disneyland Railroad also will discover a breathtaking new view along the north bank of Rivers of America. A gorgeous new Columbia Gorge section highlighted by five new picturesque waterfalls can be seen from the trains as well as from the Mark Twain Riverboat, Sailing Ship Columbia and Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes. This new adventure complements the scenes guests have come to know and cherish through the years. Landscapes inspired by four of America’s majestic rivers–the Mississippi, the Columbia, the Missouri and the Rio Grande–are carefully recreated, complete with indigenous rock formations, natural forests and wildlife, and the waterfalls.

In addition to the returning classics in Frontierland and New Orleans Square, the beloved Main Street Electrical Parade continues nightly performances in Disneyland through Aug. 20, featuring such favorite scenes as Cinderella’s ball, the appearance (and disappearance) of Elliot, the smoke-breathing, tail-wagging “Pete’s Dragon,” and the glittering “To Honor America” finale.

At Disney California Adventure, guests experience an epic new adventure and high-energy thrills on Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! It’s the only Disney attraction in the universe where guests step into a Guardians of the Galaxy story, as they help Rocket rescue this cosmic gang of misfits. With multiple ride profiles, guests never know which adventure they’ll encounter.

Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! Launches Guests into a Rockin’ New Adventure: Helping Rocket Save the Guardians at the Disneyland Resort

Fri, 2017-06-02 18:02
Irreverently Funny Attraction and Heroic Encounters Entertain Guests at Summer of Heroes in Disney California Adventure Park

ANAHEIM (May 25, 2017)–Guests become the protagonists of a rockin’ new adventure in Disney California Adventure Park as they help rescue a cosmic gang of misfits in Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! This thrilling attraction is fueled with high-energy, hilarious action that will be fun for Super Hero fans and those who are discovering this story for the first time. It opens May 27, 2017.

Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! entices guests with an original storyline based on “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, comics and animated television series, with a rapid rise into chaotic adventure and surprising visuals. The fast-paced action rocks to the beat of music inspired by the films’ soundtracks, including classic rock and pop music from the ‘60s, ‘70s and early ‘80s. And with multiple ride profiles, guests never know which adventure they’ll get.

“Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! brings an all-new epic adventure to the Disneyland Resort, and it’s the only Disney park in the universe where guests can step into a Guardians of the Galaxy story,” said Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.  “Like the smash-hit films that inspired it, this new attraction is action-packed, full of irreverent humor, and features an ‘awesome mix tape.’  It’s a fantastic way for guests to experience the Super Hero universe like never before.”

Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! opens just weeks after the theater premiere of the new film, “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2.” The stars of the films are featured in the attraction.

Walt Disney Imagineering collaborated with James Gunn, director of the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, most of the main talent from the films along with Joe Quesada, chief creative officer, Marvel Entertainment, and Marvel Themed Entertainment on the story of the attraction, to develop an experience where guests step into a story with these characters for the first time.

“I can’t be more pleased to have partnered with Walt Disney Imagineering in bringing the Guardians of the Galaxy characters to this new, immersive form of storytelling,” Gunn said. “It’s been exciting and a lot of fun to help direct and shape the experience so that it has all the heart and fun and humor of the Guardians movies.”

In addition to the new attraction, Summer of Heroes begins May 27 with Guardians of the Galaxy characters and Super Heroes appearing in Disney California Adventure for new exploits and Heroic Encounters. While some of these will be year-round, others will be available only from May 27-Sept. 10. Summer of Heroes inaugurates an ever-expanding universe of Super Hero stories at Disney California Adventure that will become even bigger over time.

The Collector’s Fortress

The Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! adventure begins as guests enter a grandiose, 183-foot tall fortress. They discover that the Guardians have been imprisoned by the arrogant, acquisitive Taneleer Tivan, known as The Collector. Guests join a daring escape plan devised by Rocket, who once again proves his uncanny ability to break free from any prison or captivity.

The dominating fortress is adorned with antennae, satellite dishes and other mysterious apparatus and is accented in shimmering hues of blue and gold. At night, with special lighting, it pulsates with imposing power. A gilded, eight-foot-tall statue of The Collector stands at the entrance to the fortress, towering over guests. These VIP guests of The Collector enter to view the unique “Tivan Collection” of relics and species from all over the universe. His latest acquisition: The Guardians of the Galaxy.

The Fortress Lobby

The Lobby of the fortress is both fascinating and creepy – filled with display cases that hold artifacts and living creatures, which The Collector has obtained and made available for public viewing. In a welcome video, The Collector explains how he has trapped the Guardians of the Galaxy high atop his fortress in secured glass cages that are wired with power from a massive generator and suspended over a deep abyss.

The Collector’s Office

Before leaving the Lobby and entering The Collector’s Office, guests hold up their hands to be “bio-scanned” for security clearance. In the Office, even more of The Collector’s relics are on display and, as in the Lobby, the collection contains some hidden references that will delight dedicated Super Hero fans and Disney fans.

Suddenly, Rocket appears, telling guests he needs their help. Using their security clearances, he can hijack the gantry lift to the top of the fortress, disable the generator, and free his friends.

The Gantry Lift

Of course, Rocket’s plan faces challenges. After guests enter the gantry lift, Rocket overrides The Collector’s recorded tour spiel with music from the tape player of Star-Lord (aka Peter Quill). Soon, the gantry is shooting up into the fortress, then plummeting downward as Rocket attempts to take control of the generator.

It’s here that guests experience one of the attraction’s six different ride profiles, each synchronized to one of the songs on the “awesome mix tape”:

  • “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” by Pat Benatar
  • “Give Up The Funk” by Parliament
  • “Born To Be Wild” by Steppenwolf
  • “I Want You Back” by The Jackson 5
  • “Free Ride” by The Edgar Winter Group
  • “Burning Love” by Elvis Presley

Guests soon learn that, even if the rescue is successful, the resulting chaos may create problems of its own!

The Technology

To help create the attraction, Disney Imagineers used Virtual Reality technology to pre-visualize the Tivan Collection, The Collector’s Office and other parts of the Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! experience.

The ride system has more high-speed ride time than ever before, and the thrill factor gets going as soon as the gantry lift doors close and the music stars blaring. Each song is accompanied by a different up-and-down ride profile and story scenes, making every visit to the attraction unpredictable.

Rocket makes multiple appearances in the attraction, including as a sophisticated Audio-Animatronics character who invades The Collector’s Office to ask guests for a hand with his escape plan.

From the anticipation guests will feel as they enter The Collector’s Fortress to the sense of discovery as they tour the Tivan Collection to the thrills and elation of participating in a successful breakout, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! is an unforgettable adventure into the Super Hero universe at Disney California Adventure.
