Off to Disneyland with about 70 High School Students - the Pre-Trip Report

intercot.com - Tue, 2018-02-06 05:41
So, after many years of not being able to find the time, energy, or money to make it to a Disney park, I am finally headed to Disneyland this coming Friday. We will be on charter busses driving to the Embassy Suites Anaheim-Orange where we will be staying during our trip.

Saturday we will make our way to Disneyland at 8am and will hope to be in the park by 9am (by time we get all of the students loaded on the bus, unloaded and to the parks). I will be taking advanatage of the MaxPass on the Disney app (my first time giving this a try). I figure for an extra $10/day, it will be well worth it - especially since we are only at the parks for 2 days and, in those 2 days, will also be busy with the workshops that the students will be participating in while we are there. We will be participating in an Audition Workshop and a Technical Theater Workshop. Due to the size of our group, we will split the students up in to 2 groups and they will each do one workshop on Saturday and one on Sunday. This will be an AMAZING experience for them (although something I can pass on since I worked at Disney for 7 1/2 years and have been through auditions and worked as a Stage Manager for various shows).

On Saturday, I will also be meeting family members who live not too far from the park at Downtown Disney for lunch. We have chosen to try out Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen as I love me some New Orlean's food. And, since a few of my family members do not have passes to the park, this will enable them to join us for lunch without having to buy park tickets.

On Saturday night, I am hoping to view World of Color. This will be my first experience and I, honestly, have VERY low expectations. I have heard a number of negative things about this show from the show itself, to the viewing of it, to the wait for finding a viewing area. I am hoping to get a FastPass to get in to the reserved seating.

On Sunday, I will be seeing Fantasmic! I actually worked the Fantasmic! show when it first premiered at Disneyland and I truly LOVED the show!! I have to say, I am not very happy about, or am I impressed by, the changes that they have made to the show. However, I am going in with an open mind and I am hoping that being their live will make it that much better.

As for attractions, the MUST DO's for me include: Guardians of the Galaxy (have not done this attraction yet), Toy Story Mania (one of my all-time favorite), Star Tours, Matterhorn, Space Mountain, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, Haunted Mansion, Pirates, Soarin' & Thunder Mountain. Anything else, I will willingly ride, but not necessarily a Must-Do.

The other musts.......the Hand-Dipped Corn Dog cart at the end of Main Street....the skewers at Bengal BBQ....clam chowder in a bread bowl & fritters at Royal Street Veranda....a Dole Whip....and who knows what else I might find!!

Let the countdown commence.....just 4 days to go!!

First Construction Permit Filed for Potential Epcot Entrance Hotel

intercot.com - Tue, 2018-02-06 01:05
The Walt Disney Resort has filed a new permit that could be the first step in laying the groundwork for a yet-to-be-announced Resort Hotel at the Epcot park entrance.

Permit# 48-00714-P "403 Basin Stormwater Master Plan" filed with the South Florida Water Management District shows several construction zones related modifications to several known Epcot construction projects, but also shows construction in an unannounced area.

Zone A near the Epcot Entrance (shown in blue below) is in an area seemingly unrelated to any other announced project:

The position of this construction zone appears to coordinate to recent rumours that plans are in-place to build a Resort Hotel near the Entrance to Epcot. Of the rumours, the zone would yield the potentiality of the hotel straddling the park entrance--similar to the Disneyland Hotel at Disneyland Paris. Attached Images

You Can Now Make Pop't Art Cookies at Home

intercot.com - Mon, 2018-02-05 02:20

•1/8 teaspoon salt

•6 tablespoons chocolate-hazelnut spread

GLAZE
•1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
•3-4 tablespoons milk
•2 teaspoons vanilla extract
•Food coloring

Instructions

FOR SUGAR COOKIE:

•Cream sugar and butter in bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment until fluffy. Add egg white and beat for 1 minute.
•Slowly add sifted flour and salt and beat at medium speed until a soft dough forms.
•Cover bowl and chill in refrigerator for 30 minutes.
•Preheat oven to 300°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment or silicone baking mat.
•Roll dough into a 1/4-inch thick rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
•Cut into six, 3×5-inch rectangles.
•Place cookies on prepared baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes, until golden brown.
•Remove from oven and cool for 30 minutes.

FOR TOPPING:
•Spread 1 tablespoon of chocolate-hazelnut spread on each cookie, leaving a border of about 1/8 inch around the edges of each cookie.
•Set aside.

FOR GLAZE:
•Whisk powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons of the milk, and the vanilla extract in a pie plate until smooth. Add additional milk if the glaze is too thick.
•Set aside 2 tablespoons of glaze in a small bowl.
•Dip each cookie, chocolate-hazelnut side down, in the glaze to cover the spread.
•Set on a wire rack to dry.
•Mix remaining glaze with desired color or colors of food coloring. Use a fork to drizzle colored glaze on top of the cookies.
The 2018 International Festival of the Arts version is a similarly frosted sugar cookie, but has a strawberry filling in place of the frosted over chocolate-hazelnut spread. Attached Images

Where to stay at Port Orleans?

intercot.com - Mon, 2018-02-05 00:07
I've stayed here twice, and like the Mansions. I really didn't enjoy the Bayou area at all. So I got it in my head that I'd really like to stay in the same building I was in....and of course just discovered that Parterre and Oak Manor are now ALL Royal Rooms. That leaves me with the other two mansion buildings, and I"m not sure I like the look of either one (no fountains in the courtyard? Sniff). What are your recommendations for building and wing? I know requests aren't guaranteed....if they put in the Bayou should I at least pay to upgrade to preferred location? Last time we were there we got lost EVERY time we wanted to get to our room. I was also unpleasantly surprised to find no elevator in those buildings, so maybe I need ground floor?
